Come and join us for a beautiful weekend away, and learn Cob, Cordwood, Light Earth, Bottle-brick construction, and Cob oven insulating.
This will be the second of 2 weekend workshops aiming to build a new Workshop Area and general hangout space at our new home in Beremboke VIC
We suggest attending both weekends if you’re able, as you will get a much better understanding of the whole process for both projects, and we also get to know you a bit better!
Skills learnt:
How to identify any wild soil sample
How to create a usable Clay Slip
How to mix and apply Cob
How to construct a Cordwood wall
How to cut and construct Bottle-bricks
How to design and install Bottle-bricks
Introduction to natural plasters and renders
How to mix and apply lime based plasters
Rocket stove theory
Designing and building a Cob Rocket Stove BBQ with side wok burner
We will be stomping a lot of Cob (a natural building tech made from clay, sand, and straw) to construct the Cordwood Wall and Rocket Stove BBQ
Cordwood is an old building technique which uses sections of round timber cut into pieces all the same length, and then they are cobbed together to form a wall, with only the end circular profiles exposed. It gives a very charming appearance, and is incredibly simple to achieve
We will also be adding ‘Bottle-bricks’ pioneered and made popular by the Earthship movement. The end result is a stunning array of exposed bottle ends, creating a stained-glass window aesthetic
We will be finishing the cordwood wall, then a sit-down class introducing natural renders and plasters, then plastering and firing the oven for a big pizza cook up on the Saturday night. Don’t miss it!
Sunday will be focussing on the rocket stove BBQ, and finishing off any loose ends with the Cordwood wall
We cook predominantly Vegan and Vegetarian meals.

This is a very exciting workshop where we will be building 2 x 25mt curvy terraced retaining walls which will house a vege garden for our wonderful client Tanya.
The workshop will be run by the effervescent Millie, who runs workshops filled with lots of learning, new friends, and rewarding hard work. She has been part of the Curvatecture team for over 6 years and has lots to share.
3 meals a day provided on work days, and we work 5 out of 7 days (days off TBC based on weather and group numbers)
Full introduction and education on how to successfully build retaining walls and garden features with SuperAdobe in a creative and fun environment.
Accomodation is BYO camping gear or van, and the site has flushing toilets and showers (luxury!)
Morning yoga sessions, Authentic Relating workshops on offer, evening campfires, and lots of new friends to work alongside.
The beautiful Tambo River is nearby for a quick dip after work, or on your days off.
After 9 years of travelling around Australia and the World, Curvatecture are semi-retiring from on-site builds and large scale workshops. We shall stay present in the field, but just take a rest for a few years!
This is another landmark build, for it is the fourth SuperAdobe home to be built in Australia; a true triumph for this blossoming technology. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to achieve permits on an alternative building, we’d love to share with you our journey.
It is for a beautiful client named Nullani, who will be moving into the home upon completion, and also running her ongoing Meditation and Healing practice from it.
The workshop will be focussing on all aspect of SuperAdobe bag-work, but also including
There will be beautiful vegetarian meals prepared for everyone throughout the three weeks, and an open invitation for daily meditation sessions guided by Nullani.
The build is on a cute block on a quiet street, where we will spend our days, and we’ll be basing ourselves at a close-by neighbours bush block for all our sleeping and socialising times.
This workshop will run for 3 weeks, and will be focussing on the SuperAdobe wall construction. The build will continue for a year afterwards, so if anyone would like to stay on and assist in all the other aspects of the build including completing the roof, ceiling, internal and external plasters, window and door install, and all the beautiful finishing touches, please do include your expression of interest in the form below. This section of the build will be run by Marc, the onsite builder who will be managing the majority of the build, and will be a more relaxed, non-workshop environment. It will feature local clay & lime based renders, bespoke windows & doors & skylight, solar power, and a small wood-fired stove
It will function as a guesthouse, on a beautiful rural property in eastern VIC, near Dargo
As manager of Curvatecture, Hayden is one of the most established SuperAdobe builders in Australia, and has tackled projects big and small, legally approved and non-approved spaces, featuring a myriad of different Natural Building techniques, all fuelled by his intense obsession with the earth and how to best utilise it within our buildings. Never before have we offered a FREE dome workshop, so please do come and get involved in a once-off build
We will offer a camping spot, communally cooked meals, showers and drop-dunnies, HEAPS of SuperAdobe hands on time, and hopefully some Cob making and applying, and some scratch coat external plasters
This workshop will focus mainly on laying SuperAdobe bags, and then the following month from the 20th Sep - 29th October will be an open working-bee structure to complete the fit-out and plastering, which all are welcome to stay on for, or attend separately if you can’t make the SuperAdobe section
We will also be making a Cob pizza oven, for some yummy hand-made pizzas throughout the 2 month build
Led by Millie of Curvatecture, you’ll learn and practice SuperAdobe techniques that will equip you in building your own earthbag construction using resources from the land. Working in teams, you’ll take part in a unique off-grid project, building walls of an underground room and sunken living area for a traditional Mongolian yurt. The build will take place on a beautiful 24 acre property in Boolarra South, featuring lush rolling hills, rainforest and plenty of wildlife (wombats, lyrebirds, wedgetail eagles etc).
Camping and food are FREE for all volunteers... so is all the education from Millie. After just a couple of days you’ll have all the knowledge you need to inform and inspire your own SuperAdobe project (e.g. tiny home, greenhouse, retaining wall, garden beds etc). Learn, laugh and build friendships with like minded people!
To register to join, fill in the form below with the dates you’re interested in coming and the names of the volunteers. Spots are limited so be quick!
