We have paired up with Dirty Earl, a national treasure in the Austrlaian and NZ natural building world, to offer a once-off, never to be repeated immersion in the amazing tradition of Tadelakt Plastering.
Earl has a wealth of experience and knowledge in both Natural Building as a whole, and specifically Tadelakt, completing multiple large scale installs a year for lucky clients. She is a pro workshop facilitator, with countless projects under her belt.
Tadelakt is a highly unique and sought after Lime plastering technique, which unlike almost any other natural building technology, is WATERPROOF! Completely naturally! It is an ancient technique originally from Morocco.
Tadelakt is a lime based plaster which employs the use of 2 unique processes: Applying an olive oil soap, and burnishing with a precious stone. Both of these things combine to create a tightly sealed, chemically water-reppelant surface, which looks incredibly beautiful!
This technique is highly sought after for it’s stunning beauty and high functionality.
This workshop will be a completely immersive 3 days, consisting of:
Day 1 - Intro and theory - Making a tadelakt ball & tile, to gather the feel for the process and get some hands-on experience.
Day 2 - Completely covering the internals of our 3mt SuperAdobe Dome Sauna!
Day 3 - Burnishing and finishing the plaster surface from Day 2.
This workshop is specifically designed for those completely ready for a deep dive into this technique.
tadelakt is a very time-consuming, high-detail, and high repetition activity. This is not for those wanting a simple introduction to this technique, a one-day course would be much more appropriate for those wanting to have a gentle introduction to Tadelakt.
The days will be from 9 - 4pm, and be continual work which involves lots of sitting, burnishing, wrist & arm strength, and lots of patience. It’s very important that we clearly outline this! As we will be needing every participants continued involvement throughout the whole 3 days.
