We will begin construction of the underground Hobbit Studio, featured above

The project is a very intricate, interesting home embarked upon by owner builder Linda and designed by Integrated Biotecture’s Architect, Will. It Involves a throng of natural building techniques, and incorporates SuperAdobe in around 1 third of the building.

The building is ultimately divided into three sections, spread across a very sloped site. It begins with a Strawbale octagonal main section at the top of the slope, weaving down into a central light-earth and cob Greenhouse section, and finalising in a submerged, double level earth-bermed SuperAdobe buried Art Studio! We, of course, have been enlisted to share our knowledge and skills with SuperAdobe, and to run the first of many assorted technology workshops, to get things rolling.

We will be laying the main walls of the building, and the supporting retaining wall, incorporating the large hobbit-like openings and doorways

Come and learn the wonders of Tadelakt, a traditional Morrocan plaster technique which achieves a waterproof finish with 100% natural materials

We will also be taking little trips together and doing many little activities outside of our learning, including an Earthship tour and dinner, pizza nights, and living on a working EcoVillage with over 200 homes planned and under construction; A wonderful blueprint of how to alternatively structure living communities in the busy modern world.
